Fuzzy Slippers Are Great

Tip 6: Stay Hydrated

"Dehydration is the only illness that can kill a healthy man!"
Dr. Bruce Miller

Is Dehydration Sabotaging your workouts and weight loss?

Take this Simple 5 Question Quiz to find out!

Did You Know?

Adults and children who are not properly hydrated often experience:

  • Fatigue and exhaustion

  • Excess water weight and bloating

  • Reduced athletic performance

  • Increased headaches

  • Poor skin and muscle tone

  • Less efficient fat burning

If you sweat, you're an athlete!

Whether you're training for a marathon or just doing a weekend marathon of yard work, your body is losing more than just water. You can sweat out electrolytes and deplete your energy stores at an alarming rate of up to three quarts per hour.  If all you do is replace water you are very efficiently diluting yourself.

Therefore we need to replace fluids, electrolytes, and energy with a  well designed hydration beverage.

It seems like everyone has a sport's performance beverage on the market.

How do you know what you really need & what to stay away from?

Fuzzy Slipper Tales

A journal of my ongoing quest to keep

"Polyester pants" at bay!

Does dehydration sabotage you on a regular basis?

I used to think I could control water weight by drinking less!  My skin became parched and wrinkled, my muscle tone was flat, I would bob and weave through a workout, or lower my intensity to keep the headaches and nausea at bay.  I thought never having to run to the bathroom was a good thing!

I started my workouts on low and ended on overload. Fat loss and weight loss were nearly impossible and I won't bore you with the details of a poorly functioning gut!  After several years of fighting, I resigned myself to idea that cellulite was just something all women in their late 40's had to accept.

Poor hydration had played it's tollI had to completely revamp my ideas around my need for pure water!  I had to learn to ignore my thirst as a cue and just teach myself to drink.  Sure it took a little while for my kidneys to adjust, but once my body got used to the regular supply of pure water....it started to release all the extra bloating and my fluid balance normalized!   By applying the ideas listed below, I have regained great skin and muscle tone, lost the water weight, noticed a huge difference in my ability to perform exercise or yard work without getting lightheaded, dizzy or muscle cramps.

Simple Tips to Stay Hydrated!

Have purified water available in dispensers at home.

Start your day with a Soy Protein shakeClick Here for great smoothie recipes.  Consume this before before coffee or juice to prevent that first blood sugar bounce of the day.

For a great coffee/diet pop alternative try Yerba Mate' Royal . Mental alertness, appetite suppressant without the dehydrating effects.

The Institute of Medicine recommends men consume about 13 cups and women about 9 cups of fluid per day.

Drink a glass of pure water with each meal and between each meal.

Sip on a well designed diluted hydration beverage.  Check out the Cranberry Cooler Recipe below. Our whole family loves it!

Use a stainless steel water bottleClick Here for a great resource that offers stainless steel 27 oz water bottles!  Click Here for the kid size canteen  that fits in lunch boxes!  Plastic water bottles leach synthetic estrogen and , are a leading contributor to breast cancer according to Cheri Swanson, CNC who works successfully with 1,000's of cancer patients referred to her by physicians.

(Some people find it helpful to fill a large container at the beginning of the day.

Continue drinking purified water until evening.....last full glass early enough to prevent having to get up during night (usually 2 hours prior to sleep).

If you plan to exercise, do yard work or just work up a sweat:

  • Pre-load prior to your workout with about 16 oz of Performance Hydration Beverage. Consuming another 16- 32 oz of hydration beverage during your workout.  Thirst is a lousy indicator of your fluid needs.

  • Check out Physique, as an excellent  recovery beverage to consume  within 20 minutes of completing your workout.  Rebuild/Repair your muscles and decrease next day soreness!
