Grains

Enjoy the bounty that nature provides!

Grains are the original comfort food. Whenever possible, select whole grains to get the most nutritional benefit. As an added plus, studies show that women who eat whole grains weigh less!

  • Annie’s Organic pastas – Check out their macaroni & cheese and canned pasta meals. They even have gluten-free options!

  • Trader Joe’s Organic Brown Rice Penne Pasta (Wheat/Gluten-Free)

  • Tinkyada Brown Rice fettuccine, shells, and spiral noodles

  • Annie’s Organic buttermilk pancake mix – Easy to make and delicious – what a great combination!

  • Ancient Harvest Quinoa (KEEN-wa) Pasta Wheat/Gluten-Free complete protein grain

  • DeBoles organic spinach fettuccine – Yum!

  • Whole wheat pastry flour – If you are feeling ambitious and want to whip up something home-made.

  • Ezekiel sprouted grain breads – We love the cinnamon raisin,  toasted and spread with a little organic butter.

  • Rudi’s breads and buns are wonderful soft whole wheat.  (Trader Joe’s/Lakewinds)

  • Rudi’s Spelt bread - if your kids will only eat white bread, try this. (Lakewinds)  Rudi’s also had great spelt wraps. Spelt contains higher levels of protein and fiber than wheat, and the gluten in spelt can often be easier to digest.

  • Cream of buckwheat – Makes a wonderful hot, whole grain cereal.  Tastes like tapioca pudding.

  • Kashi whole grain crackers – Whole grain and no trans-fats.

  • Steel Cut Oatmeal - takes longer to cook, but can be reheated without tasting like “wallpaper paste!”  Nutty taste with a chewy texture. Drizzle with Agave syrup, sprinkle with cinnamon!

  • Quinoa – Cooks like brown rice but is lighter and fluffier. It is an ancient grain and very nutrient dense. Super easy to make!

  • Brown rice – Excellent source of manganese, a trace mineral necessary for energy production and a vital antioxidant component.

  • French Meadow Bakery breads and bagels – All made with organic ingredients and no yeast!

  • French Meadow Bakery tortillas – Sure, you can use them for tortillas but we also like to use them for sandwich roll-ups (a new twist on the lunchbox standard).
